Hi Kurt, Thanks for all the work you're investing into this. Although I'm not much of an active participant, I've been reading your articles for a while now and really appreciate your writings. I also think the Ning community is a…

Very good new Some non-specialists are interested in the activities and XMLToday and also XOrion (France - Canada - Belgique - Suisse / Francophony community). I think about a young WebTV, which is followed by a more broadly community (about 350 000…

Progress (and Thanks)

After the offer of server space and funds to help support the move, I've begin rebuilding the XMLToday.org Drupal site. First, I wanted to offer a huge debt of thanks to David Lee and Bill Blondeau, David for volunteering a server for the site (which should save more than a $1200 a year in fees and keep the site up and running more steadily) and Bill for contributing two months worth of site fees in order to help manage the transition over. I also wish to thank those of you who offered…See More

I don't believe so - though until I can get back in I won't know for sure. The site is just "locked" and is otherwise inaccessible. I'll unlock it as soon as I can then will assess the state of the site. On the other hand,…

Temporary Home for XML Today.org

The lousy economy has been chasing me for awhile now, and recently it finally caught up - leaving me in a position where I'm scrambling to pull together funds. Thankfully, a number of people have stepped forward with assistance, and I should have the main site up and active again soon. Until then, I'm redirecting to this older Ning site I set up when the site was originally getting started, where I'll try to keep up information and postings until things smooth out again.

Setting up new server

While I've been generally impressed by Ning as a platform, it has some limitations when it comes to posting code and handling certain other functions that I've come to expect from a blogging platform. To that end, I have completed the initial stages of migrating XML Today to a Drupal 6 site. While I'm still waiting for the domain registration to transfer from my older site, you can reach it now at http://www.xmltoday.org.

Quick and Dirty XQuery Big Number Approximator

I've been putting together some XQuery scripts while processing a number of SEC XBRL files, and one thing I discovered very quickly was the sheer magnitude of the numbers involved - millions, billions and in a few cases trillions of dollars of money were involved. In order to help me get a little better idea of what these numbers actually were (since 1049924150 and 104992415 look very similar, though one is an order of magnitude larger), I wrote a couple of very crude "big number approximators"… Continue
